"Buzz" - Drugs Awareness

The play works around a simple dramatic device. The drug is played by a person. "Buzz" is the central character. He is charismatic, very attractive and as the audience gradually discover, extremely dangerous. The intention is help the students understand how drugs work, see the effects they have both physically and psychologically, and to rehearse some effective strategies for dealing with drugs when they come across them in later life.

Knowledge and Information
To raise awareness of the personal, social and legal implications of drug use. To provide clear and accurate information on the positive and negative effects of different drugs. To develop a wider understanding of drug related health and social issues. To provide information on local services and how to access them.
Aims
To dispel myths and challenge stereotypes about substance use and misuse. To enable young people to make informed and responsible choices with regard to drug (both legal and illegal) and alcohol use. To ensure young people are aware of the risks that users and potential users face. To offer a quality piece of theatre which is educational, rigorous and fun.

Skills
To raise self confidence and self esteem in drug related situations. To develop effective and practical strategies to resist pressure to use drugs. To develop communication skills for young people to effectively deal with drug related situations. To identify potentially dangerous situations and develop skills necessary to handle them.
